As I start my own design company, my first question is "why," when so much of today's design is done on the computer and via the internet. The design world has been very fickle the last few years because of the way people view and approach design. For me, it has been an evolution from thinking about the space for the furniture, to thinking about the space for the person and how they plan to use it. To work a room is to take what the client does not say, but what they show you in the first and second meeting with them, and then bring that vision alive.
The one thing that stands out with me, and what I have been praised for during my 19 years of design, is my work with color and the unusual patterns and textures. I like to use patterns like Toiles that play well with plaids and masculine stripes and strong English floral that has a voice. I combine a balance of modern and traditional elements to give you a room and a home where comfort trumps all.
New, old, expensive, cheap... My ability to mix, layer, and work with patterns and colors will produce an elegantly eclectic environment that is both formal and casual, feminine and masculine. It will have an emotional effect on anyone, which a computer cannot accomplish.
As I am mostly self-taught, my inspiration and love of design comes from within, along with my love of traveling abroad which influences all that I do. Looking back on my past, one of the things my mother taught me is to always be confident and believe in myself, and that confidence and the belief in my own ideas have served me well. I am fortunate to have had such trusting and loyal clients and I remain so grateful that they took a chance to work with me.
Over 19 years of design and travel has made me the type of designer that works to give you the OPTIONs for the space you are looking for.
